U.S. ECONOMIC GROWTH

MKTPULSE_Growth steady

GDP growth in the U.S. is chugging along nicely, with two full quarters of data to support. Numbers released by the Commerce Department on October 26 put growth at 3.5% for Q3|2018, vs. 3.30% estimated. This is undeniably good news. The flip side is that growth tumbled in Q3 by 16% from the 4.20% print for Q2|2018, in a single quarter. Elsewhere on “Chart Watch,” growth is predicted to decline as we get closer to 2019 and beyond, in the U.S. and around the globe as higher interest rates begin to take a toll, as a rising U.S. dollar challenges emerging markets and as the escalating tariff wars begin to impact. For now, though, growth is in the “Good” column and is so posted on “Chart Watch.” There is nothing shabby about 3.5% growth.
